The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a screening tool used to evaluate seven fundamental movement patterns in individuals with no current pain complaint or musculoskeletal injury.

Designed to assess movement and identify compensatory movement patterns, the FMS is an invaluable tool for athletes and weekend warriors alike as it provides an opportunity for improved movement. The FMS is designed to place individuals in positions where movement deficits become noticeable and to identify whether these deficits are stability or mobility related. Many individuals are participating in athletics and recreational activities using poor movement patterns, which result in the use of compensatory movements that can result in subpar performance and lead to injury over time. Once identified, poor movement patterns can be corrected with appropriate exercise selection and progression, resulting in improved performance and injury RESILIENCE. The FMS is highly recommended for all individuals as a baseline measurement prior to participating in athletic and/or recreational activities. For those involved in competitive sports, it can be used strategically throughout the training season to monitor body mechanics as the demands of your sport increase.
